Foods to Avoid

Avoid all foods on the list below. If you do need to purchase processed foods check the label and only purchase options with less than 10g carbohydrate per 100g. The lower the better. Avoid reduced fat options, they will generally have a higher sugar content.

What you can’t eat:

  • All bread and bread products (this includes whole grain options, rolls, pita bread – avoid ALL bread products!)

  • Rolled oats and breakfast cereals

  • Rice white and brown (this includes sushi, rice crackers, rice noodles)

  • Chickpeas, lentils, hummus, soybeans, and other pulses

  • Sugar in all its forms – plain sugar, castor sugar, maple syrup, golden syrup, honey

  • Pasta and pizza

  • Hamburgers, fries and most takeaways

  • Lollies and chocolate

  • Beans and legumes

  • Dried fruit

  • Fruit juice

  • Beer, cider and liqueurs

  • Cakes, biscuits, muffins, crackers (unless the recipes have been accessed from this website)

  • Potato chips, rice crackers, corn chips, pop corn and packaged snacks

  • Potato, kumara, pumpkin and corn on the cob (or any corn).

  • Pastry

  • Flour, plain and wholemeal and all flour based products

  • Banana, grapes, canned and stewed fruit

  • Processed sauces and condiments (tomato sauce, sweet chilli sauce, low fat mayonnaise)

  • Honey, jam, golden syrup, rice syrup, agave

  • Polyunsaturated oils (canola, rapeseed, soybean oil, and corn oil) EAT ONLY OLIVE AND COCONUT OIL

NOTE: If you are in doubt as to whether you should or should not eat a particular food a good motto is;
